Do I need to buy insurance coverage when I rent a car?
Do I need to buy insurance coverage when I rent a car? It is up to you. That is a personal choice. You have to decide depending on your situation and circumstances. Usually, you don’t really need to buy an additional insurance from the car rental company for the reason that this may be included in your coverage. Most of the time, credit and travel cards include auto coverage when they use the car for the car rental charge. Provisions that give you some liability and other coverage might be included on your health, homeowner’s, renters or auto insurance policies.

Wondering what on earth are you going to use your travel insurance for? It’s simple. Travel insurance is money you set aside so that you could be financially safe when something bad happens. Examples of this are the following:

Your flight was cancelled or you need to cancel your trip because you are sick or a terrorist incident is occurring at your destination.

Your passport plus your wallet are stolen and you need cash and a replacement passport.

You lost your bags and your medication is in it. You can get an emergency prescription.

You got in an accident and you need medical evacuation.

You want a refund when the airline, cruise line or tour operator gets bankrupt and you need to get to where you’re supposed to go.

Your cruise line, airline or tour operator goes bankrupt. You need your non-refundable expenses covered and to get to your destination.

A hurricane forces you to evacuate your resort, hotel or cruise.

Travel insurance: why it works

Posted by editor

Of course, if you don’t foresee any upcoming trips in the future, then maybe yo won’t be needing travel insurance for awhile. However for prolific traveler, having travel insurance is important.

You’ve probably experience a time when your airline misplaced your bags and told you that while they were sorry for the unfortunate mix up, you need to wait for a couple of days before they can return your stuff. You are effectively stuck then, with just the clothes on your back. Having travel insurance allows to to make claims for any purchases for essential like clothes while your bags and baggage aren’t returned to you.

Travel insurance also helps a lot when you get sick in another country. Whatever medical costs you incur there are usually not covered by your health care plan, so you need to have something to fall back on.

travel3Well, it seems that enough people are thinking positively enough not to cancel their planned vacations abroad even in this economic recession. Though the numbers are down, tourism is still a viable industry for many countries who so depend on it for some of their economic income. Many places in the world have been developed solely for the tourism trade, access routes, infrastructure and many other developments are all aimed at bring in in the tourists and the dollars of course. Surveys are showing that people still have the energy inspite of their losses at home to get down and out of their regular routines to enjoy with the family on vacation.
Prices are down and with many of the places normally reserved for the elite now at affordable costs, who wouldn’t be enticed. Be sure to take all precautions and to do some research on your destination country. It is also best to register with the respective authorities in your country of residence so you can get help from your country’s embassy should a need for it arise. Safety should be your priority, not taking unnecessary chances that may not be covered by your insurance. And lastly, let other people know you are away(family, friends and neighbors) so they can watch over your home if needed so you have a home to get back to after a long and enjoyable trip.

Cutting Corners – Travel Insurance Providers

Posted by editor

In the UK, there are a huge number of incidents wherein travel insurance providers are cutting corners and the figures continue to rise. Cases of non-coverage and other incidents continue to grow but the blame is shared between insured and provider. Providers like all businesses are sometimes forced to cut corners, revising their exclusions on their policies without proper discussions with clients who end up on the losing side. Travelers on the other hand, fail to review properly their policies ending up disappointed with insufficient assistance in the event of accidents.
The move to get moderation or management by a government body is being opposed for the travel industry has long been a self-governing body. But with growing numbers of incidents makes the case strong for proper management and arbitration to protect long suffering consumers. The global economic slowdown, tends to bring out the best and worst of people and those who stick to time proven honest practices are sometimes the ones who end up on the losing side. Rising costs of doing business taxes on earnings leaving minimal profits if any causing them to close doors. Travel may be a part of our lives as our pressure release valves but getting the protection we need when we do travel is indeed getting harder by the day.

Comprehensive Travel Medical Insurance is for long-term travelers who have already left their jobs and have no insurance protection at home. It is also for people who are not living and working in their home country. Emergency Travel Insurance is for people with medical insurance at home which does not cover them while traveling. However, this kind of travel insurance only includes emergency medical services overseas, when you get home, you are expected to be once again under your health insurance for essential check ups, treatment or continuing care. Majority of health providers and health maintenance organizations(HMO) in the USA have their own clauses for emergency care while travelling abroad for fewer than 30 days.
